A little bit about me...

Hi, I’m Emma, mum of two and the founder of Lighten the Load Sleep Consultancy. I’m a trained and accredited Sleep Consultant through The Sleep Consultant Academy, a leading provider of professional sleep consultant training.

I know first hand how heavy early motherhood can feel. When my daughter was born, I tracked naps, read everything and pushed through broken nights because I thought that was just what mums did. By the time my son arrived, I realised it was not only the lack of sleep that was exhausting. It was the invisible mental load of trying to do it all.

Returning to work made that even clearer. Balancing deadlines, childcare and home life showed me that sleep support needs to be realistic, structured and supportive, not another thing to manage.

Today, I combine my experience as a working mum with evidence based, responsive sleep training to offer gentle, structured support that prioritises both a child’s emotional security and a parent’s wellbeing.

Outside of work and 'mum' life, I love simple things. Muddy dog walks, social netball, a cuppa plus the essential dunkable biscuits, and a good charity shop find. I believe in reusing, passing things on, and keeping life a little lighter where possible.

My mission is to help mums find calm, clarity and rest that fits into real life, so you can feel lighter, more confident, and more like you again.

Am I the right sleep consultant for you?

Choosing someone to support your child’s sleep, particularly as you prepare to return to work, is a big decision. You are trusting them with your child’s rest, your own wellbeing, and the limited time and energy you have. I approach that responsibility with care, structure, and clarity.

What I Believe

Sleep support should be tailored and realistic. There’s no one size fits all approach. Every child and family is different, and your sleep support should reflect both your child and your working life.

Sleep plans need to work around employment. If a routine only works when you’re home all day, it isn’t sustainable. I design plans that fit around childcare, commuting, early starts, meetings and siblings, so progress holds once you’re back at work.

Parents’ wellbeing matters. Sleep deprivation affects focus, confidence and emotional resilience. Supporting your child’s sleep should reduce your mental load, not add to it.

Clear structure with emotional reassurance. My approach is grounded in Comforting Through Change™, combining clear routines, consistent boundaries and gradual support withdrawal. This helps children build independent sleep skills while feeling safe and supported.

No judgement. No extremes. Just calm, practical steps and sustainable progress.

If you’re looking for structured, evidence based sleep support designed for working parents, especially those returning to work, we’re likely a good fit.
